The Shanghai Museum is one of China's small showpieces. You can walk its galleries in a morning, or come back day after day to read the excellent educational commentary (in perfect English, bless them) on artifacts that go back more than 4000 years. There are beautiful exhibits tracing the histories of Chinese calligraphy, jades, bronzes, ceramics, seals, folk costumes, paintings. Interesting ommissions are anything to do with weaponry, warfare, or performing arts.
