Entering the upper lock at the Three Gorges Dam

We went into the lock around midnight for the start of a 3-4-hour process. From a distance I was sure it would be a tight fit for a ship the size of ours, but this view off our stern, after we had two boats nestled beside us, shows there was more than enough room for yet another ship like ours and two additional smaller cruise boats — six craft in all. The skill of the pilots was amazing. As far as I could tell, no boat touched any other boat or the side of the lock during the hour I watched.
