Terra-cotta horses
Previous    Next
The scope of the tomb containing the terra-cotta army is unbelievable—even if it's not the Great Pyramid. The task of restoration is on a par with piecing together the Dead Sea scrolls, since the statues were crushed to pieces and covered with mud after the roofs over them collapsed. The soldiers are each unique, maybe even modelled on real individuals, but the horses are the perfectly matched teams that any great emperor would insist on.
