Brazil Nut

One of our guides was from a native tribe of the area; he called himself Samuel (are there any coincidences?). On a morning trek into the forest, he opened a brazil nut pod, then peeled one of the kernels and had us sample it fresh from the tree. It was softer than the dried nuts, almost creamy, and slightly sweet.
   Yes, they really do use machetes in the jungle. And they keep them sharp.
